Four Family Members Injured at Rapids Waterpark
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The ride was way too scary and too dangerous for one local family. Four family members are rushed to the hospital after their raft overturned while on the slide "Black Thunder." Many of the witnesses we spoke with say they couldn't believe what they were seeing. Four people injured on a ride that was just supposed to provide a thrill. Two people are still in serious condition after an accident here today.
"From there they hit every wall possible," says Katie Nadeau. She says she saw the accident as it was unfolding at the bottom of the ride. A family of four on a raft flipped over while inside the ride injuring everyone on board. Katie, a life guard at another water park says she joined the lifeguards at Rapids to help two of the injured.
"I was extremely scared. I felt so bad. But at the same time I kept my cool because I saw what I needed to do and they needed help and they needed attention," says Nadeau
Other people who rode Black Thunder today say they could see how people could get hurt if they got into the wrong position on the ride.
"If you slide up a lot and hold on if the tube flips and you lay flay you're ok. But if you hold on to the tube while it's flipping your in trouble", said Joe Land who was visiting the park with his neices and nephews.
Witnesses say that is what happened to that family of four.
"I turned around saw two lifeguards running", said one witness.
"Everyone was around her and they were moving fast", said another witness.
Katie Nadeau says she came to the park to just to enjoy a summer day...but was excited to be able to help...she just hopes it was enough.
"It's a reality check. I guess you learn from experience. It had to be a bad experience a very scary one but god bless that family", she says.
We heard from Columbia Hospital where the victims were first taken. The father will stay there tonight for observations...one the other victims has been released. The remaining two were transferred to saint mary's hospital. The Rapids Waterpark here says they are investigating the incident.
